Most businesses are on a journey somewhere and more usually multiple journeys concurrently. The journeys vary, from developing and taking a world changing technology to international markets, to changing a culture to one of gold standard quality, to moving the business out of an old fading market to new emerging markets.
If your organisation is on a journey then strategic planning is a critical process at the heart of navigating your journey successfully. Running a business and traversing from your current state to your desired state and engaing your whole team in supporting the journey, often while either growing the team or managing the consolidation of a team, is a real challenge. Achieving it successfuly requires more than a knowledge of strategic and business planning processes, it calls for experience in managing the process authentically with all stakeholders in a way that achieves real ongoing engagement in the process. Organisation facing these challenges are well served by recognising the value in calling in experienced and independent facilitators to support the process. Workplace relationships are complex and given the impact of formal, informal, and perceived power between people in the organisation, an important question for an organisation to ask is whether internal leaders will have the abilities and the trust of all process participants to create a 'safe forum' in which authentic conversations about strategy and planning can occur. An essential foundation to a planning process is building a platform of authentic communication where the real issues are named, and one where there is faith in the integrity of the process and the organisation. A strategy built in this way with engagement, authentic communication, and coming from a place of integrity will withstand challenge and is readily adjusted on the move as circumstances change. Visioning, creating strategy, and building out the detailed plans to operationalise strategy is a journey in itself, and are not completed in a retreat over a few days. A strategic journey will span some years, and planning retreats across that time period will change in nature depending upon where the organisation is in its strategic life. Following retreats there is substantial work to be completed by the whole team and for plans to achieve engagement and to be internally consistent and extensive cooperative process is required. Again this process of developing detailed strategic plans, business plans, and budgets may benefit from the support of an exerienced facilitator with deep experience in these processes. Processes to support Planning and Strategy need to be tailored to the circumstance of an organisation and its stakeholders. Consider sitting down with an experienced practitioner and facilitator in strategic planning. | A core focus for Authegrity is supporting organisations in strategic change processes, building organisational community and passion for a shared vision of success among all stakeholders, while building trust with the world through demonstrating consciousness as an organisation.
